Chris Roberts Biography

My name is Chris Roberts. Thank you for visiting the BushWhacker Tournaments website. I am so glad you came by to check things out. Below you will find a lot of background about me and my tournaments. First off, let me say that looks are deceiving; most people would not think that a man with a long beard and tattoos would be such a devoted Christian. I am a true believer in Jesus Christ and with out him and the support of my family, the fishermen I have become would not have been possible.

I was born in Ada Oklahoma; I have fished with my family since I was old enough to hold a pole. I fished farm ponds out of a tube when I was just 12 years old. I graduated to a small 2 man bass boat when I was 16 and then at the age of 22, I purchased my first real boat, a Ranger. I took that boat everywhere! I went to Altoona, West Point, Lanier, and Hartwell Lakes in Georgia. I moved back to Oklahoma at the age of 28 and started fishing Skiatook and Birch Lake. I started fishing many of the trails around the area and loved the fishing and excitement of the tournaments. I fished the TAG, Bartlesville BassMasters, Hawk, Champion, triton, Skeeter, Mid America, River Rats, Tulsa Metro and Oolagah Bass Club, just to name a few.

In 1999, I join the Bartlesville BassMasters. This was the largest B.A.S.S Federation club in the state. I was a member from 1999-2002. I then returned to them in 2005 and remain a member to date. While I was a member of the Bartlesville BassMasters I was able to fish with some great people and I was:

Fishing is a huge part of my life. Because of this, I have been blessed with some amazing friends and great sponsors. I started BushWhacker Tournaments in 2004. I was hosting Jackpots on Grand, Hulah and the Arkansas River. I took over the Tuesday night jackpots from my friend Royce Dennington in 2005 after his fishing career took of and was unable devote the time to make it work. Ever since then, I have been running them and loving every minute of it. Our Tuesday night Jackpot tournaments are a great way to enjoy some good fishing with friends and family and not have to spend an entire day on the lake in a formal fishing tournament. The 2 hour event is nice and short, while giving you the feel of tournament pressure on some great Oklahoma lakes and rivers.

Over the years, I have had the pleasure of working with some amazing people and being part of some fantastic events. While on the tournament trails, I was sponsored by the following manufacturers:

I was also able to write as a field editor for www.oklahomabassfishing.com and loved writing about the sport of fishing and taking care of the nurseries. I have organized the brush pile day on Copan Lake 07.  We had 40 volunteers, 700 trees and set 200 brush piles to be used as cover for the fish in Copan Lake. I have worked diligently with ODWC and US Army Corps of Engineers to start a restocking program for Copan and Hulah lakes. With the help of many friends, I have implemented the Nursery Pond on Hulah Lake and stocked it with over 12,000 1 inch bass. After the growing season for those bass, we were able to harvest almost 3000, 4 to 7 inch long bass and stock Hulah Lake to keep the fisheries healthy. We are still in the infant stages of habitat enhancement on Birch and Copan Lakes for 08-09, but we are continuing our fight to improve the lakes and streams that give us such enjoyment. I have worked many “Meet the Pro’s” at Academy, and served as Pro-Staff at boat and tackle shows for numerous years. I have also served as a guide for Phillips Petroleum for the Executives.

I really love to fish as you can see, but some of my more memorable fishing moments have been while taking children and teenagers fishing for the first time in a boat and watching them catch their first bass. So many children never get to experience the joy and the thrill of catching a fish, camping in the woods or just being on a boat. I feel blessed to have been able to provide that experience to those children. I have volunteered at Camp Cavett (Texoma) and the Burn Camp (Hudson) as a guide taking the terminally ill and burn victims fishing on my boat. I am the Director of the Jimmy Houston & Roland Martin “Fishin’ With A Mission 2009” Charity tournament benefitting 5 charities. The United Way, Martin Truex Jr. Foundation, Jewels For Life, Capture the World and the JD McCarty Center. This event is being held September 25th, 26th of 2009 and I encourage everyone to support it.

Now that you have some background information on me, I hope to see you at all of our events and look forward to building a great bond with you and your family.
